This is the begining of Lake Mead, which formed because of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. You are probably wondering about the redness of the mountain sides, it is because of the concentration of Iron Oxide in the sand, which leaves off all rust (redness). I couldn't get a clear shot of the most concentration of the Iron Oxide in Nevada, but there was this area where it was literally red, they used that location to shoot parts of Star Wars (Tatooine), and a couple of other movies.
